2 ways we invest in the autism community
The Ireland Family Foundation supports two distinct priorities: advancing the scientific understanding of autism through research, and directly improving the day-to-day lives of adults living on the spectrum. Both matter equally to us.
We grant only to legally formed 501(c)(3) nonprofits, including universities, research institutes, and service organizations with no religious or political affiliations. Grants range depending on the program and the proposal.

Autism Research Grants
We support organizations working to expand what the scientific community knows about autism, including its causes, characteristics, and the most effective ways to support people on the spectrum throughout their lives. We're particularly interested in research that has real-world applications for adults, and work that could shape clinical practice, policy, or direct services.

Adult Autism Direct Services Grants
Adults on the autism spectrum face a significant gap in services because most funding and attention is directed at children. We actively work to fill that gap. We fund nonprofits providing meaningful, community-based programs that support adults with autism in living, working, and connecting on their own terms.

Our Application Process
The process is straightforward. Here's what to expect from the first contact through the funding decision.
STEP 01
Review Eligibility
Check the eligibility criteria above to confirm your organization qualifies before moving forward.
STEP 02
Submit an LOI
Send a brief LOI to presidentirelandfamilyfdn@gmail.com describing your organization and the work you're seeking to fund.
STEP 03
Foundation Review
Our board reviews your LOI and follows up with any questions or a request for a full proposal.
STEP 04
Full Application (if invited)
Invited applicants submit a complete grant application. We'll let you know exactly what's needed at this stage.
STEP 05
Board Decision
The board reviews all full applications and communicates decisions to all applicants by email.
STEP 06
Grant Agreement & Funding
Awarded grants move to a signed grant agreement and funds are disbursed per the agreed timeline.
TIMELINE
Plan for several weeks between your LOI submission and a decision. We'll provide a clear timeline when we acknowledge your inquiry.
REPORTING
Grantees are asked to provide a final report documenting the use of funds and outcomes within 12 months of the grant award.

Yes. We welcome Letters of Inquiry from eligible organizations at any time. A brief, well-written LOI is the right starting point, and we review them on an ongoing basis.

Our direct services funding is specifically focused on adults on the autism spectrum. We believe this population is chronically underserved and that targeted investment here creates meaningful, lasting impact. Research grants may address autism more broadly, but proposals with a strong connection to adult outcomes are especially competitive.

Our grants have historically ranged from $1,000 to $100,000. The right amount depends on the scope and strength of your proposal, your organization's capacity, and the overall funding pool for that cycle.

No. The Ireland Family Foundation grants only to legally formed nonprofits with no religious or political affiliations. This is a firm requirement, regardless of the nature of the programs an organization runs.

Your LOI should briefly describe your organization, the program or project you're seeking funding for, the population you serve, and the amount you're requesting.

We accept Letters of Inquiry on a rolling basis. There is no single annual deadline. We encourage you to reach out when your organization is ready. Don't wait for a specific window.

We review every LOI carefully. If your work aligns with our priorities, we'll follow up with questions or an invitation to submit a full proposal. We communicate all decisions, including declinations, by email, so you'll always know where you stand.
