The Ireland Family Foundation was established to do one thing well: direct meaningful resources to organizations working at the forefront of autism, whether through rigorous scientific research or the hands-on programs that help adults on the spectrum live fuller, more connected lives.
We're a private 501(c)(3) foundation. We fund work that's grounded, impactful, and lasting.
If your organization is a legally formed nonprofit working in autism research or adult autism services (with no religious or political affiliations), we want to hear from you.

We fund work across two distinct areas, each with its own focus and eligibility criteria. Grant amounts are based on program needs and our annual grant-making budget.
Autism Research Grants
We fund scientific and clinical research that expands what we know about autism, from causes and co-occurring conditions to interventions that improve quality of life. We're looking for rigorous, outcome-driven work with potential for lasting impact.

Adult Autism Direct Services Grants
Adults on the autism spectrum are underserved in nearly every funding category. We support the nonprofits delivering the employment support, housing programs, life-skills training, and community inclusion services that adults with autism actually need.

Check Your Eligibility
Review our eligibility criteria to confirm your organization qualifies before submitting. We only fund legally formed U.S. nonprofits with no religious or political affiliations.

Submit a Letter of Inquiry
Send a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) to presidentirelandfamilyfdn@gmail.com. Describe your organization, your project, and the amount you're requesting.

Receive a Decision
The foundation reviews all LOIs and responds to invited applicants with a request for a full application. All applicants receive notification of the board's decision by email.

Questions we often hear

We fund U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations working in 2 areas: autism research and direct services for adults on the autism spectrum. We do not fund individuals, for-profit entities, or organizations with religious or political affiliations.

The amount we award depends on the strength of the proposal, the scope of the work, and available funds for that grant cycle.

Our direct-services funding is specifically focused on adults on the autism spectrum. Research grants may touch on autism across the lifespan, but programs designed primarily for children are outside our direct-services priority area.

Yes. We are a national funder. Eligible organizations from any U.S. state may apply. Our giving history includes grantees in NC, MD, NY, VA, CA, IN, NJ, and OK, among others.

Yes, grantees are expected to submit a final report that describes how the funds were used, the outcomes of the supported program or research, and any lessons learned.

If your organization has distinct programs in both areas, the answer is “yes.” Please describe both in your Letter of Inquiry and we'll clarify how to proceed. Most applicants focus on one funding area per inquiry description
